COVENTRY, RI HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: CY113 FENNER-HARKNESS LOT

Location: 15 ft south of CLARK ROAD at TEL pole # 20. 25 burials with eight inscriptions from 1789 to 1836. 75 ft x 45 ft in very poor condition no enclosure; sign missing.

Benns #415. In 1935 they found 2 gravestones broken. Between then and 1995 someone had used the stones for target practice with a gun and only one stone remains intact. Most are completely gone except for a stub.

COVENTRY RI HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: CY109 MANCHESTER CEMETERY, Washington Street, RI 117. General Nathanael Greene Highway.
Jerome Fenner and his wife Prudence Lewis Fenner are located on the south side of the bike path on the western side. John Sterling's Coventry RI Historical Cemteries also lists their son Walter and his wife Mary. Their stones are missing.

Jerome Fenner, son of Carpenter Fenner and his wife Huldah. Feb. 22, 1831 - Sep. 22, 1901. He enlisted for 6 months during the Civil War with the 26th Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteers.
Prudence Lewis Fenner Nov. 1, 1835 - Aug. 17, 1914.

HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: CR005 FENNER LOT CRANSTON RI Location: 25 ft west of PIPPIN ORCHARD RD at TEL pole # 109 3 burials with 3 inscriptions from 1865 to 1908 30 ft x 45 ft in fair condition enclosed with granite posts; sign missing NOTE: James Arnold visited this lot 5 Jul 1891, Vol 2, pg 127, beside the road leading from Plainfield Road to the Pippin Orchard, lot protected with granite posts and iron chains, yard in good order. Note: Richard Arthur Fenner and Lydia Rapoza visited this site on 23 June 2006 and found the lot overgrown with foliage and unable to be seen from Pippin Orchard Road. This site is in terrible condition. Mr. Fenner could only find one grave due to the overgrowth. Lydia Rapoza visted again on August 20, 2006 and found the trees and high grass had been cut and allowed to rest where it had fallen. The gravestones were visable. The stones of Adeline Fenner Whitaker and William Fenner were broken and lying on the ground. The small gravestove of infant George Salisbury was upright and secure.







Adeline Fenner Whitaker Aug. 29, 1846- Nov. 18, 1909. She was the daughter of William Fenner Jr and Sarah Ann Wilbur. She was divorced from Elisha Whitaker.(Cranston Cem #70) Her gravestone is inscribed with the word "MOTHER". Adeline was the mother of 11 children.
William Fenner Jr. husband of Sarah Ann Wilbur(buried at Pocasset cem) and son of William Fenner and Mary Mathewson.

George Fenner Salisbury : Son of William and Maria L Salisbury Died October 24, 1865. Aged 1 year, 3 mo's & 7 days. "He was the sunshine of our hearts, An angel to us given. Just as we learned to love him most, God took him home to heaven."

HISTORICAL CEMETERY #: CR018 FENNER - LAWTON LOT CRANSTON RI

Location: 20 ft south of PLAINFIELD PIKE AT SAILOR DR at TEL pole # 367S 34 burials. 100 ft x 45 ft in fair condition enclosed with a stone wall; sign in good condition. NOTE: south west corner of Plainfield Pike & Sailor Dr. adjacent to CR064

Lydia Rapoza visited this lot in August 2006. She found the gravestone Mary Fenner lying on the ground, broken in half and covered with tall grass.


Mary Fenner was the wife of Stephen. They moved to Herkimer NY in abt 1816. Where Stephen died in 1823 and is most likely buried. Mary returned to Rhode Island. She died shortly after being noted in the 1830 census for the Town of Johnston.
