June 18, 1781 General Rochambeau marched with some
6000 troops from Providence along Cranston Street( Monkeytown Road) to

Joy Homestead
(9)
So from vital statistics, genealogies, deeds, will, church records,
tombstones, account books and other manuscript material plus a few
personal reminiscences of neighbors of the later generations of Joys we
have this much to offer of the story of the Joys who first came to
Virginia three hundred and twenty five years ago– to Cranston almost a
hundred years later– and buried the last lineal descendant of the family
tree three quarters of a century ago in a burial plot just east of Joy
Homestead at Joytown.(since moved)
We hope these will additions to this story from time to time. There
may be some corrections but this seems to be the story to date .
