Sharing the Memories

Sharing the Memories: Faces and Faces in Time"

In honor of the City of Cranston's 100th Anniversary the Cranston Historical Society will be starting a new project. We hope to gather the memories of our citizens of places and people that have a special place in our city and in our hearts.

To begin this project we will post some of the pictures that people have kindly left with us.

John Dyer of Maine/Florida remembers his grandfather George Dyer(right)of 1270 Cranston Street as a remarkable man who owned the former Sprague Mill School house on Cranston and Howard street. George never owned a car. He liked to ride his bicycle around the town.

The sisters of George Dyer were Martha Taylor and Jessie Hill. Circa 1936.

Mrs. Jane Dailey Beaton of East Greenwich formerly of Dyer Avenue donated this picture of her mother Ellen Dailey and the picture of herself riding her bike. The picture of Jane and her bike shows a mill of the Cranston Print Works that burnt down sometime later giving the Dailey's a wonderful view of the Print Works Dam.

James Pannozzi of Nevada emailed this picture of 19 Sabra Street. He wrote that 19 Sabra Street is the first house on right at the start of the street, Twin Oaks is at the end of the street. This picture is of Millie Sepe on the left with some of her 7 daughters and her friend Maria Helen Pannozzi with her son James at the Panozzi house. Jim's dad worked for the Providence Body Company.
